Expertise and Experience

Your guide Victor Cooper is a local Aboriginal (Bininj) traditional owner who specialises in interpreting and communicating the important stories associated with the ancient images on display at the famous rock art sites of Ubirr and Nourlangie in Kakadu National Park. Victor holds the Kakadu Knowledge for Tour Guides Accreditation.

As a Minitja man, Victor has the Indigenous credentials to tell and interpret the stories that are attached to these important cultural rock art sites in Kakadu. Victor provides interpretation from both a Bininj and a scientific perspective with respect to the geology and the land forms in the region. The rock art tells stories of how Bininj lived, hunted and gathered in the area.

Victor was one of the first Indigenous rangers for Kakadu National Park over 25 years ago, originally field based, looking after the country and then later in a management role at Park Headquarters. Victor’s other roles in the community, past & present, include member of the Kakadu Board of Management representing the Minitja clan group. Most recently Victor was acting Chair of the Kakadu Tourism Consultative Committee.
